Sarah Palin a Genius?

So it's a widely held belief that Sarah Palin is not very intelligent.  She's been mocked and made fun of ever since she came on to the major political scene.  From the beginning she has opposed the global warming issue.  Others such as Barrack Obama, Albert Gore, Keith Olbermann, and the majority of the elitist, intelligent, sophisticated folks on the left have fanatically proclaimed that global warming is man-made, particularly by those evil people in civilized nations (Americans).

Now that there is evidence that global warming is not real and not manmade and is greatly exaggerated (some even go as far as saying it's a hoax), will Sarah Palin be touted as a genius?  and those previously mentioned as idiots?  I would hope so.  That's only one issue that she is RIGHT and the others are WRONG.   Should we look at tax cuts? drilling for oil? big government? socialized medicine?

So here is my letter to the editor. It generated 95 posts, the majority of which think I'm an idiot.

Please allow me to clarify a few things. I put Palin vs. Bill Clinton/John Edwards types, because those two are the biggest b.s.ers I know. A lot of the criticism to my letter was that I don't know who is running for President. Hello, I know who is running for President, though it pains me to say it is Obama and Biden! If I were to write it again I would set it up as 'which would you prefer a down-to-earth Palin OR B.S. Politicians like BARRACK OBAMA, JOSEPH BIDEN, HILLARY AND BILL CLINTON, JOHN EDWARDS, ETC.'

With that said, I still believe that Sarah Palin will make a great leader for this country! Government should not be complicated, and for people to say we need a real intellectual in the white house, i don't go for it! Do they need to be intelligent, absolutely. I had a lot of professors that were intellectual....but how it would scare me if some of them were elected president. (I had a lot of great professors, but I also had a lot of LIBERAL ELITISTS who who were about as intelligent as Nancy Pelosi!) While some believe she is as dumb as a box of rocks, I do not believe Palin is an idiot!

Last thought: My favorite movie is "Dave". I know it's a fictious story, but the idea behind it is right on! I like it because I believe average honest ordinary people can be better leaders and make better decisions than real professional politicians. That's my opinion. Please share with me yours. Now the Democratic candidate for President claims he is going to really give us change along with a Democratic Congress!!!! Just how much more 'change' do you think we can stand?"

We'll miss you Tim Russert

Sadly, we say good bye to one of the brightest political minds and to a real good man. I never met Tim Russert, but feel-- like I'm sure many people do-- that he was a real good man and someone that you could trust. I really enjoyed his passion passion for politics and life. He will be greatly missed. He was one of the finest journalists. So many political figures and fellow journalists are describing him as "tough, but fair" which is very fitting and a great compliment to the way he did his job.

600 the natural way!

I salute Ken Griffey Jr from all the way up here in the cheap seats on hitting his 600th career home run!!!! He would no doubt be ahead of Barry Bonds in home runs if he used performance enhancing drugs, but Junior decided to do it the right way. We need to recognize more the good guys in sports. Griffey is an amazing baseball player and a powerful role model! Congrats Junior!

Who will win the White House in November?

It's seems like this race for the White House has been going on for so long now! I consider myself a political junkie and typically cannot get enough, but wow, is it November already? To think we haven't even begun. The Dems don't even have a nominee yet!

As this website is usually 100 percent right on (never mind the Suns...what a dark day indeed!) I felt that the you all deserved a view from the cheap seats!

This year's election is very difficult to call. All three candidates have HUGE obstacles to overcome. You can make a case for why each of three COULD win. You can also make a case why each of three WILL NOT win. So here are the obstacles and what if anything the candidates must do to overcome them:

Barrack Obama's obstacle: Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Just when Barrack was running away the nomination, video of his out-of-control, spiritual advisor were leaked (by the Clinton machine???). Obama very well will win the nomination (and not pick Hillary as a running mate), but this connection to his one time pastor may doom him in the general election, as he tries to become more middle of the road.

America has come along way, not letting race hinder a candidates chance to win the most powerful position in the world. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, would be so proud, yet so sad. Proud that Barrack Obama could be so close to winning. Yet so sad that the racism of Rev. Wright could prevent that from happening. As Obama tries to distance himself from Wright, especially now that Wright is now clarifying his "out of context" comments, it will be interesting to see if Wright truly will sink Obama's chance of winning. Not too sure if Oprah can save him from this! Certainly alienating those clutching to their God and their guns doesn't help his chances either.

Hillary Rodham Clinton's obstacle: Hillary Rodham Clinton

Is America ready for a female president? Maybe. Is her name Hillary Rodham Clinton? Hell no!

Hillary will have a very difficult time overcoming her divisiveness! Just mentioning her name in many circles of this country sparks outrage! She does have a lot of support, as her last name is Clinton. Also being married to the first black president in America doesn't hurt either. But will that support be enough to offset those that will come out to vote, soley just to vote against her? Unlikely. The democrats have a better chance of winning the White House by picking Obama.

John McCain's obstacle: The GOP

Typically in a General Election the candidates will run towards the middle of the road. (The liberals become more conservative and the conservatives become more liberal). This may be an unusual election where all candidates try to become more conservative.

Senator McCain's true obstacle is winning over the Republican party, since he is a RINO (Republican In Name Only). If Hillary is the nominee, it won't take much to win over the party. If Obama is the nominee, it will be more difficult.

McCain is the most likely to overcome his obstacle and win the election, but he must absolutely play his cards right. He must pick a running mate that can get the Rush Limbaughs of the world on his side. Like him or hate him, Rush Limbaugh is the most powerful influence in the political world. Win over Rush and you will pick up millions of votes.

So what will happen?

Again because you have two liberal and one moderate candidates still in the race it is hard to predict what the outcome will be. The past two elections have proven that the country is pretty evenly split.

Republicans can take hope yet also be scared with George W. Bush winning the re-election in 2004. Bush was not very popular in 2004 but still managed to win. Was it because the republican base is greater than the democrat base or was it because his opponent was John F. Kerry? I believe the latter. However, the country may be ready for a drastic change. And not just a change to McCain, but a change to the far left.

Whether the economy, gas prices, the credit and housing mess, is Bush's fault or not you can be certain that the democrats message "of we need change" will not fall on deaf ears. Stay tuned as this election will be very, very interesting.

Only 5 fouls???

As I've been watching the March Madness chaos I've been thinking about how the NCAA should allow players 6 (maybe even 7) fouls before they foul out.

In the NBA, a league that is very deep (30 teams, 12 players each team=360 players) they allow 6 fouls and by having that additional foul, the game is typically decided by the playermakers (the Kobes, Lebrons, etc.) Officiating is usually better in the pros than in the college ranks, as well.

Often times in the NCAA which is not so deep (take for example the 65 teams in the tourney with say 13 players=845 players) the game is decided not by the big 2 or 3 on the court, because of foul trouble, but sometimes by those that are average or ordinary players. Also as mentioned earlier, officiating isn't as strong as in the pros. Therefore, by allowing one or two more fouls before disqualification, that will leave the playmakers on the floor, making up for a bad call or two.

Just one area the NCAA may look to improve college baskketball.

NFL Draft Mania

Ahhh! This is the best time of the year! Its 80 degrees in Arizona. Cactus League is here for baseball fans. And for NFL fans....it's time for mock drafts galore. That's right, the best two days are fast approaching. Live from New York, it's the 2008 NFL Draft, April 26 and 27.

The next couple of months have become huge for NFL fans. Mel Kiper Jr. is a celebrity, not just for his hair, rather for his draft knowledge. Mock drafts will fill the internet, Draft experts will appear on talk radio. The funny thing is the players have completed their collegiate careers and have participated in the Combine drills, yet their stock will rise and fall for no good reason, other than draft experts say so.

Remember two years ago when the experts said the Houston Texans made the biggest mistake by taking Mario Williams ahead of Reggie Bush??? I was right there with them. But after last season, Bush was average at best and the 291-pound Williams led the NFL with 14 sacks. What do experts know? Obviously, very early in both of their careers, but maybe the Texans didn't blow it after all.

How about in the NBA. Experts said Greg Oden was a "sure thing" at number 1 in the last draft and that Portland would be foolish to not take him. Well now Oden is sitting out his entire rookie season with a micro fracture knee injury. If healthy, he should have an amazing career, but my point there is no sure thing and the experts could be dead wrong again.

Another example was Super Bowl 42 here in the desert. Most, if not all, experts gave the New England Patriots no chance to lose. So why even play the game right? The great thing about sports is as the NY Giants proved the game most be won on the field not in the arena of the experts.

Maybe that is why the NFL draft has become such a huge event. With the anticipation of the upcoming season teams have an opportunity to greatly improve themselves or waste a pick and a lot of money on a player that will be a total bust.

Honesty has always been and will always be the best policy!

Why won’t some people learn? The American public is a very forgiving group of people. If you screw up, admit it and say you are sorry, you’d be considered an American Hero, a man or woman of great character and integrity! But why do those often on the biggest stage in front of the brightest lights, repeatedly not understand this? It baffles me. I’m thinking of starting a little side business of advising athletes, politicians and celebrities. I certainly could make a small fortune and very easily help them restore their image.

Does anyone really believe Roger Clemens? I would have to say if you knew nothing about the whole steroid case and the accusations, but all you did was observe his body language and demeanor; you then would probably be able to figure out the truth.

Clemens would have been better to take a page out of Mark McGwire’s playbook: “My lawyers have advised me not to talk about the past.” Gee, that’s some great legal counsel. How much did that cost?

Or maybe Clemens should have gone down the Sammy Sosa path and suddenly lose his ability to answer questions in English.

Instead he chose the Rafael Palmeiro model: Deny, deny, deny! Too bad that Clemens fate will soon be that of Palmeiro’s: a brilliant baseball career destroyed because of steroids and then lying under oath about it.

I feel badly for Clemens. The rest of his life he will be living a lie and will always have to answer questions. If he simply came forward and said, ‘yep, it’s true. I screwed up and I’m sorry. Now I’m going to work with kids helping them understand the dangers of illegal drugs, steroid, and HGH.’ He would be set for life, still make the hall of fame and most importantly be at peace with himself!

Contrast Clemens’ situation to that of teammate and friend Andy Petite. He came clean and his image is probably one of the best in all of baseball, even possibly better than those that didn’t even take steroids. Simply by telling the truth.

Will Shaq deliver a title to Phoenix?

There's no question the Phoenix Suns rolled the dice with this trade, bringing the first legit big man to the Valley of the Sun. But does the Diesel have enough gas left in the tank? A lot of people throughout the country feel that the Suns got hosed in this trade by swaping fan favorite Shawn Marion to Miami for Shaq. But I believe the trade makes sense for three reasons.

One, the Suns were going to let Shawn Marion walk after the season. This way they at least get something in return for the Matrix.

Two, at the time of the trade the Suns had the best record in the NBA, if you don't count the Boston Celtics, which I don't because they play in the Eastern Conference (half of their wins aren't legit.) But was anyone intimidated by the Suns....no. That's why they had to make this trade. Now people are wondering and thinking how they are going to matchup with the Suns.

Three, the San Antonio Spurs. The Suns have not been able to get by their hated cheap shot rivals from Texas. They can run by just about anybody, but when the Spurs slow the game down to a half court offense the Suns just can't compete... or at least they couldn't. With Shaq onboard that will change the dynamics of that matchup.

This trade has a lot of similarities to the Suns acquiring Charles Barkley back in the early 90s. Both are characters and certainly not afraid to speak their minds. Both are a bit on the heavy side. Both are at the end of their careers. I believe the one difference is simple. Chicago doesn't have #23 anymore. Suns over the Celtics in 6.
